Meal Prep as easy as 1.2.3.

Here’s how I do it:

Pick your proteins:

I usually pick 2-3 proteins to serve over 4-5 days. This week will be Chicken and Ground Turkey.

Plan your meals and gather your ingredients:

Spring Chicken Salad, Turkey Tacos, Turkey Poppers, Buffalo Chicken Wraps, and Chicken & Spinach Pizzas for dinner. Overnight Oats for breakfast.

Prepare your ingredients:

Prepare enough Chicken and Turkey for your meals and while those are working you can cut your veggies for the week, place in containers and store in the frig. Next, prepare your oats and refrigerate. When your turkey and chicken are done, put in individual containers and put away in the frig until needed.

BAM! READY TO GO for the week!

There are several different ways to meal prep, you just need to find the one that works best for you. This way works for me and honestly, I rotate through the same or similar recipes every week so I don’t even think about it much. I’m going to make chicken every week (I know… we eat A LOT of chicken, lol!) so I just need to think about one other protein. Once I have that, I kind of know how much I’ll need. For me and my husband that would be about 4 or 5 chicken breasts and 1 pound of ground turkey.

I’ll prepare the chicken in my crockpot (you could prepare however you like) and I’ll fry ½ a pound of ground turkey for tacos and the other ½ I’ll make into turkey poppers. Once the turkey is done and the chicken is on, I’ll start washing and chopping veggies. For this particular week, the only thing I won’t cut up early will be lettuce, spinach, and mushrooms as they don’t store as well cut up. Everything else will be cut and stored in the frig till I need it.

When it’s time to get dinner ready, most everything is prepped. All I have to do is pull it out of the frig and prepare it. I can generally get dinner on the table in under 15-20 minutes.

The benefits of meal prep are multiple!

  1. Takes the guess work out of the age old question, “What’s for dinner?”
  2. Evenings go smoother as most of the hard work is already done ahead of time.
  3. It makes it easier to stay on my eating plan when I plan ahead. We are PLANNING FOR SUCCESS!
  4. It’s an investment in our health. When we’re eating at home, I can plan healthy meals.
  5. It can save you money! Eating healthy doesn’t have to be expensive. When you’re planning ahead, you can buy in bulk, freeze extra food for later and you spend less eating out!

Like I said above, there’s no “one best way” to prep your meals. The best way, is the way you’re going to be able to consistently do it. Eating healthy is worth the time it takes.
